MWANGAZA BAND

Mwangaza is a Swahili word meaning light. The name is formed from Mathew5: 14-16.   We are the light of the world.  Jesus asks us to let our light shine before men that they may see our good deeds and praise our Father in heaven.

For Mwangaza its not only to be the light of the world, but our purpose is to give the message of the gospel through songs, so that the world may know that Jesus is Lord and through him people can attain peace, forgiveness and reconciliation.

One day Pastor Jared Mlongecha of International Gospel church in Boston, Massachusetts had a Vision to start a praise and worship team from East and Central Africa.  His vision was to bring every culture, language and tribe from this volatile region together to lift up the name of our Lord Jesus in songs so that through Christ the people can attain peace, forgiveness and unity.  Pastor Jared thought about this vision and shared it with a Pastor friend, Alex Kayumba.  They both sat down and committed this vision in prayer.  The more they prayed, the more this vision weighed heavily upon their hearts.  They then decided to call different people whom they thought could sing and accomplish this vision with them.  Little did they know that in about 3 months 10 original songs would have been composed.  What accomplishment! Praise is to the Name of our Lord Jesus!

On January 27th 2006 at 7pm Mwangaza was formed of more than 10 strong born again members from the countries of the Great Lakes Region of Africa and 2 American artists. These countries are Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Congo and Tanzania.

WHAT IS MWANGAZA?

Mwangaza is a multi-talented group that sings various genres of music including Gospel and African in different languages.

The group’s ability to fit any audience and culture in the world makes it unique.  The name Mwangaza comes from Swahili (African Union’s official Language) meaning light.

The group is dedicated to shinning out this light as it takes out the message of peace, forgiveness and reconciliation within the boarders of the Great Lakes Region of Africa and beyond through songs.

Mwanganza’s goal: - is to go beyond singing and become ambassadors for peace reconciliation and forgiveness not only our volatile region but also beyond our borders and to the whole world.

Our Mission: - is to challenge every Christian from every culture and every background to rise up and shine for Christ.  To use whatever talent, instruments, language, wealth, breath; anything God has given to shine with Mwangaza’s light and tell the world that Jesus is Lord and Savior.
